OrthoLean

Working efficiently in the orthopaedic workshop

Due to the steady increase in competition and falling reimbursement rates, orthopaedics businesses are always looking for ways to improve their efficiency. The OrthoLean concept lets customers benefit from the experience and knowledge Ottobock has gained in planning and equipping more than 2,600 workshops all over the world. We offer an integrated approach including consulting, planning and products.

The goal of the OrthoLean concept is to enable optimally coordinated working processes that minimise waste. After all, streamlined processes help lower the cost of production – and maximise profits as a result. The focus isn’t working faster but rather maximising the proportion of value-added process steps and eliminating unnecessary tasks. Additional benefits include enhanced employee motivation and a higher quality of work.

We have developed our own system for an efficient orthopaedics workshop based on lean manufacturing principles and are already using it successfully in practice.

Alignment stations

Alignment stations

The alignment process is an important part of fabricating devices. Not only is this a time-consuming process step, it also has a major influence on the quality of the fitting. The alignment stations are optimised to meet the requirements of this process. This makes it possible to reduce process times while simultaneously improving quality.

A large selection of ready-made tools and accessories is available for adaptation to individual requirements.

All advantages at a glance

  • Easy access to all required tools
  • Maximum safety thanks to integrated vapour suctioning
  • The plaster or foam model can be simply moved for optimal processing
  • Optimal lighting with integrated LED overhead light

Orthotics

This station is optimised to meet the requirements of the orthosis alignment process and can also be individually adapted to various applications with a large selection of ready-made tools and accessories.

Prosthetics

This station is used for the fabrication of lower limb prostheses. It is tailored to the PROS.A. Assembly, our product for the bench alignment of TT and TF modular lower limb prostheses, and comes with all the required tools.

Suction booth

Suction booth

The OrthoLean suction booth enables the safe storage and mixing of resins and adhesives required in the alignment of prostheses and orthoses, next to the alignment station directly in the workshop. This eliminates walking to and from the lamination room. Vapours that may be hazardous to health are kept in the booth by an air curtain and effectively suctioned to prevent them from getting into the workshop.

All advantages at a glance

  • Excellent lighting
  • Ultimate safety for the user
    • Vapours are suctioned at several points in the booth
    • Air curtain prevents vapours from flowing out of the booth
    • Waste bin with integrated suction

  • Storage for all required tools and the daily supply of materials

Order trolley

The order trolley moves from one process step to the next, accompanying the order from assembling the components to finishing the device. An order can be set aside or passed on according to the baton principle when it is not currently being processed. Several fixation options are provided to secure the stored products. Order trolleys that are currently not in use slide into each other to save space.
